Victory against the odds

In what really was a victory against the odds, and defying the theory that only years of experience can produce a Bathurst triumph, Jason Bright and Steven Richards brought home their Pirtek-backed Ford Falcon EL to claim the greatest prize in V8 Supercar racing in front of a near record crowd of 47,000.

From a lowly 15th on the grid (following an all-night effort to repair the car after Bright crashed it heavily on the Friday), the Pirtek Falcon rose steadily through the field to assume the lead with 27 laps to run.

The Bright/Richards Falcon headed home the Castrol Commodore of previous year's winners Larry Perkins and Russell Ingall by a decisive 10.3 seconds. For two-thirds of the race, the lead Holden Racing Team Commodore VT of Mark Skaife and Craig Lowndes had been the class of the field, leading 105 of the first 112 laps and showing the kind of speed its rivals simply couldn’t match – until fate intervened to ruin their day.

This release also includes a range of unseen vision. We have included the race action that unfolded while television viewers of the day were watching the commercial breaks.

Run Time: Approximately 7 Hours and 44 Minutes.
