Due to the pandemic, the 'Great Race' at Bathurst had to be the final round of the 2020 Supercars Championship season for the first time in 20 years. It was the last ‘factory-backed Holden team’ race, a momentous occasion after over 50 years of Holden factory support in Australian motor racing.
To thank the millions of loyal red-blooded Holden fans, a special livery for the Triple Eight Race Engineering Commodores made a striking and respectful acknowledgement of so many memories from Mount Panorama.
Fending off a pack of rampaging Mustangs and Commodores, van Gisbergen took his maiden Bathurst victory and the last for a Holden-backed team!
As always, the best endings are unscripted and van Gisbergen capped off this special event by 'borrowing' a passionate fan’s red Holden flag to send the Holden Lion off in perfect Bathurst style!
